WASHINGTON, DC - The Business Software Alliance (BSA) hailed bipartisan congressional approval of US free trade agreements with South Korea, Panama, and Colombia, a press release by the Alliance stated.

“These three free trade agreements are tremendous wins for the software and IT industries,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “They will increase sales and exports of US software products and create jobs in the process.”

“All three agreements include world-class intellectual property provisions that will help spur technology innovation in the United States and among our trading partners,” Holleyman said. “They prohibit tampering with technological protection measures, and they include guarantees of statutory damages for intellectual property theft. The agreements also will increase market access for IT products and services, and formalize non-discrimination in e-commerce.”

“We look forward to working with all three countries as they implement these historic agreements, because they represent a tremendous opportunity for growth,” said Holleyman. “We must ensure they are carried all the way through to fully deliver on their promise.”

The Business Software Alliance is the leading global advocate for the software industry.
