BOSTON - Intellectual property litigation associate Marta Belcher recently spoke at the European Parliament in Brussels on the topic of blockchain and copyright law. Belcher was hosted by Members of European Parliament (MEPs) Henna Virkkunen (Finland), Catalin Ivan (Romania), and Daniel Dalton (United Kingdom) as the legal expert on a panel titled “Blockchain: Backbone of the New Digital Age” on June 26, 2018. Belcher discussed international blockchain regulation and answered the MEPs’ questions about blockchain’s implications for copyright law in light of the European Union’s consideration of the Copyright Directive.

Earlier this year, Belcher spoke on blockchain regulation at a World Economic Forum cryptocurrency satellite event in Davos, spoke on blockchain for social impact at the International Civil Society Center in Berlin, and participated in a blockchain workshop at the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) headquarters in Paris, in addition to delivering talks on blockchain law at the University of Southern California School of Engineering, U.C. Berkeley, and Stanford Law School. Belcher is based in Ropes & Gray’s Silicon Valley office and represents blockchain companies and a blockchain trade association in matters related to intellectual property and public policy.
