BOSTON - Intellectual property litigation
associate Marta Belcher recently spoke at the European Parliament in Brussels
on the topic of blockchain and copyright law. Belcher was hosted by Members
of European Parliament (MEPs) Henna Virkkunen (Finland), Catalin Ivan
(Romania), and Daniel Dalton (United Kingdom) as the legal expert on a panel
titled “Blockchain: Backbone of the New Digital Age” on June 26, 2018. Belcher discussed international blockchain regulation and answered the MEPs’
questions about blockchain’s implications for copyright law in light of the
European Union’s consideration of the Copyright Directive.
Earlier this year, Belcher
spoke on blockchain regulation at a World Economic Forum cryptocurrency
satellite event in Davos, spoke on blockchain for social impact at the
International Civil Society Center in Berlin, and participated in a blockchain
workshop at the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD)
headquarters in Paris, in addition to delivering talks on blockchain law at the
University of Southern California School of Engineering, U.C. Berkeley, and
Stanford Law School. Belcher is based in Ropes & Gray’s Silicon Valley
office and represents blockchain companies and a blockchain trade association
in matters related to intellectual property and public policy.
