NEW YORK, NY - The International Trademark Association (INTA) announced in a press release that David E. Warr, former Director of International Government Affairs and Policy for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Co., has joined the Association to lead its Washington DC office.  As INTA’s Washington Representative, Warr will be responsible for developing and implementing the Association’s government relations strategies in the US.

The creation of this new post reflects INTA’s dedication to strengthening its presence in the capital city. And with the expansion of the Washington DC office, INTA is better positioned to influence and promote stronger trademark laws to US policymakers on behalf of its members.

“I am extremely excited to lead INTA’s Washington DC office,” said Warr. “With the new Congress in place and with the Administration’s focus on protecting businesses’ innovation and brands, law makers will want to address trademark owners’ concerns and establish stronger policies that support intellectual property rights—and INTA will be in the forefront of this progress.”

Warr brings more than 19 years of experience in corporate government affairs in the US and internationally. During his time at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Warr participated in the development of global policies on issues including anticounterfeiting, intellectual property rights, and free trade agreements. His work expanded beyond the US and included managing issues in Australia, Canada, Europe, Latin America, the Philippines and southern Africa. Additionally, by securing partners in both the public and private sectors, Warr was instrumental in the launch of SECURE THE FUTURE®, the first and largest corporate commitment to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.

“We are thrilled to have David on board,” said Alan C. Drewsen, Executive Director of INTA. “His in-depth knowledge of and experience in working with government officials will only accelerate INTA’s work on communicating how issues such as counterfeiting and trademark infringement injure US businesses and consumers.”

In addition to Washington DC and its New York headquarters, INTA has offices in Brussels, Belgium and Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, as well as representatives in Mumbai, India and Geneva, Switzerland.

The International Trademark Association (INTA) is a worldwide association of member companies and firms that support and advance trademarks and intellectual property as elements of fair and effective global commerce.
