OTTAWA, ON - TITUS, a leading provider of security and compliance solutions for email, documents, and Microsoft SharePoint, today announced in a press release that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the company two new patents covering the company's user-driven classification tools.

The newly issued patents cover two key aspects of TITUS’ offering – document classification and classification for web-based email. Both patents serve to illustrate how the company’s unique approach to classification is not only practical, but also a true first in the industry.

In addition to these patents issued by the USPTO, TITUS also recently received two Innovation Patents in Australia for the same intellectual property.

“The issuance of these patents reinforces what our 1.5 million users around the world already know – our classification solutions are innovative and offer a simple, user-driven way to ensure critical data is handled appropriately,” said Tim Upton, president and CEO, TITUS. “These patents support our ongoing commitment to delivering world-class security and compliance solutions that focus on ease of use for our customers.”

The USPTO issued US Patent No. 8,024,304 is for the Document Classification Toolbar, which adds the ability to classify documents based on specific properties and enables users to classify a document by one or more classification levels. The second patent – US Patent No. 8,024,411 – is for the Web Email Classification Toolbar, which enables users to classify web email, calendar items and appointments based on security classification and other factors. Concepts from these patents are currently being used in TITUS Classification for Microsoft Office and TITUS Message Classification for Outlook Web Access.
