Many positive responses were immediately received from AIPLA members who welcomed the establishment of the Subcommittee.

One of these responses was received from Mr. Faisal Daudpota

senior partner, Daudpota International who said: “This is certainly encouraging to IP rights awareness and exchange of ideas on this side of the pond. I shall be glad to work along with the chair of this newest Subcommittee”.

Founded in 1897, AIPLA is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community. AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals, companies and institutions involved directly or indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property. Our members represent both owners and users of intellectual property.

The Society was established on February 23, 1987 in Munich, Germany under the name “Arab Society for the Protection of Industrial Property”. The idea of establishing a specialized Arab professional body concerned with organizing the profession of those working in the Intellectual Property field at the Arab level and presenting technical assistance to the Arab countries in the various fields related to Intellectual Property, was devised by leading practitioners of the profession in the Arab world led by Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh.

ASIP aims at promoting and developing Intellectual Property protection in the Arab world through the encouragement of the development and modernization of IP systems and laws and regulations that govern them. ASIP is dedicated to the building of capacity and expertise of IP professionals and practitioners, as well as enhancing awareness among the general public. The Society utilizes a number of tools to successfully achieve its objectives, such as holding education programs, conferences and seminars, research projects and studies.
