Moroccan Parliament Votes on International Conventions on IP, ICT and Genetics

CASABLANCA - Due to speedy developments in the field of Intellectual Property in Morocco, the House of Representatives in Morocco’s Parliament has recently voted on some important international conventions related to Intellectual Property, Information and Communication Technology and Genetics.

Joining this kind of conventions is expected to benefit the Moroccan market and economy. These conventions would provide Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) protection on a worldwide basis.

The following is a list of the adopted conventions:

 - Locarno Agreement establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs

 - International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks

 - The Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity

 - Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs

 - Strasbourg Agreement concerning the International Patent Classification

 - Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks

 - Arab Convention on Combating Information Technology Offences

Moreover, a draft of decree shall be submitted soon before the Moroccan Parliament for establishing the Moroccan National Committee on Innovation and Industrial Research.
