SINGAPORE - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Domain Names (TAG-Domains) Executive Director, Mr. Mahmoud Lattouf, took part in the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) 49th public meeting held in Singapore, March 23-27, 2014.

The Singapore meeting followed just more than a week after the U.S Government's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) asked ICANN to convene global stakeholders to develop a plan to transition the current role played by NTIA in the coordination of Internet Domain Name System (IDN).

The ICANN 49 meeting brought together more than 1,940 delegates from 150 countries representing government, business, technical community and civil societies to discuss issues related to Internet and its future, and propose a roadmap for the further evolution of the Internet governance.

“Participants from across the global ICANN community have expressed a range of views about the meeting’s substantive focus, expected outcomes, and potential significance in the continuing evolution of the global Internet governance, taking into consideration the recent announcement by the U.S Government to transfer stewardship of some vital Internet technical functions to provide for global accountability,” said Mr. Lattouf.

“As a crucial moment in the history of the Internet, this year event marked the beginning of a new era of the ICANN and the future of Internet governance,” he added.

TAG-Domains' participation in ICANN started July 2000 and since then it has been active in all ICANN events.
