KIEV - Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced that the country’s first cyber police unit, dedicated to fighting online crime, will be formed next month.

The recruitment of new officials began on October 15. The potential candidates are facing challenging entry requirements, such as higher education, English fluency, advanced IT skills and familiarity with legislation and regulations relating to cybercrime.

According to Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, the unit will be able to immediately respond to cyber threats and cybercrime, and effectively cooperate with other countries to combat transnational cybercrime.

The new police unit will work on cases that involve copyright infringement, spreading illegal content, hacking, Internet fraud, information security threats and the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes, among others.
