BELGRADE - Serbian authorities from various institutions active in the field of IP launched a campaign on December 17, aiming to raise consumer awareness about harmful effects of counterfeit products, particularly three high-risk product categories: toys, food and mobile phone accessories.

The campaign was launched by promoting and distributing a publication about counterfeit toys. The publication states that counterfeit toys are cheaper than the original, but that they are usually manufactured in illegal conditions and in violation of health and safety regulations. The raw materials used to produce counterfeit toys are not subject to control and can contain toxic chemicals and harmful substances that can cause serious health problems.

Moreover, it often happens that small parts of fake toys fall off, thus increasing the risk of choking.

According to official statistics, last year Serbian authorities seized over 107,000 counterfeit toys intended for the domestic market.
