Canada and Mexico Extend their Bilateral Patent Agreement

10-Jul-2016 | Source : CIPO | Visits : 6389
GATINEAU, QC - CIPO announced a two-year extension of the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), beginning July 6, 2016.

According to CIPO, this PPH pilot program allows applicants seeking patents in Canada (CIPO) and Mexico (IMPI) to obtain corresponding patents faster, more efficiently, and with improved quality. The PPH agreement also permits CIPO and IMPI to benefit from work previously done by each other’s patent office, in turn, reducing examination workload.

We will continue to process requests for advanced prosecution under the PPH program free of charge. Regular fees (Schedule II of the Patent Rules) for requesting examination will continue to apply.
