ROME- As Guest of Honor, HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), was the main speaker in a special seminar on Intellectual Property Rights; the copyrights of authors, publishers and artists on the Internet in the Knowledge Age, held at the library of the Italian Senate in Rome.

The seminar which was held under the patronage of Italian Senate President Mr. Pietro Grassi, was inaugurated by Senator Renato Schifani at the Senate Library with wide participation of Senators, experts, heads of universities and IPRs societies.

In his remarks, Senator Schifani  highlighted the global role of ‘AGIP’ in the protection of IPRs, while Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his great pride, being a member of the Jordanian Senate himself, to address the oldest Senate in history.

Participants discussed the idea of establishing an international society to be headquartered in Europe to protect the rights of Arab authors, artists and publishers.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that there is need for a protection system on the Internet similar to the one that protects domain names and trademarks, inventions and copyright, pointing out that the Intellectual Property profession is lagging behind the fast- developing ICT revolution, which will reach its peak in 2050.

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh said: "The revolution in ICT is expected to reach its peak in 2050 when human beings and machines begin to interact with each other. At that point the Internet of Things (IoT) will replace the internet of today, using artificial intelligence (AI).  Such interaction will abruptly trigger technological growth.”
Dr. Abu Ghazaleh added that he requested UN bodies and World Trade Organizations, in addition to others, to draft a trade agreement for knowledge products, stating that Google the biggest company in the world, is a knowledge company, and that the biggest market value company is Apple which reached $800 billion and will reach one trillion next year.

Since he launched and headed the United Nations Internet Governance Forum, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the need for an Internet governance system, which will at the same time protect the right of the US as the original Internet inventor.
Dr. Abu Ghazaleh concluded by reminding of the fact  that the next Knowledge age "which now we call ‘virtual’ will become the real, while our current world will become the past”.
