Jordan to Host ‘WIPO Regional Meeting on IP and Women Entrepreneurship in the Arab Region’

AMMAN - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Industrial Property Protection Directorate (IPPD), Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will hold the ‘WIPO Regional Meeting on Intellectual Property (IP) and Women Entrepreneurship in the Arab Region,’ September 1-3, 2019 at the Directorate headquarters in Amman.
 
Ms. Zain Al Awamleh, Director of IPPD, told ag-IP-news Agency that Jordan and for the first time will host such a gathering that witnesses the participation of representatives from 22 Arab countries and IP-relevant regional and global organizations.
 
“Hosting this gathering underlines Jordan’s support to women entrepreneurship in the region and signifies the awareness of decision makers in the country of the importance to reinforce commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Al Awamleh said.
 
"The level of participation is high and the subjects to be tackled in the sessions are very interesting and reflect the importance of such an event. The main sessions of the meeting include Jordan’s Experience in Promoting Women Entrepreneurship, Overview of WIPO and its Activities to Support Women Entrepreneurship and Inventors, The Concept of “Entrepreneurship, Developing Creativity and Creative Thinking Techniques, Intellectual Property (IP) for Business and WIPO Services for Small and Medium Enterprise’s in addition to others," she added. 
 
The Role of Education in Promoting Entrepreneurship through the Use of IP Tools: A Comparative Approach, Examples of Korean Education on Developing Entrepreneurship and Supporting Women Entrepreneurs, Means of Exploiting IP Systems in Support for Women Entrepreneurs, and a roundtable discussion on Exchanges of Experiences and Best Practices in the Arab Region on the Promotion of Female entrepreneurship will also be tackled.
 
Ms. Tamara Nanayakkara, Counsellor, SME’s and Entrepreneurship Support Division, Department for Transition and Developed Countries (TDC), WIPO, Geneva, Ms. Dina Ibrahim, Associate Program Officer Regional Bureau for Arab Countries, Development Sector, WIPO, in addition to others will take part in the event.
 
Moreover, Cooperation between WIPO and the League of Arab States (LAS) in Promoting IP in the Arab Region will be highlighted by a representative of the League.
