Abu-Ghazaleh Receives Secretary of Palestinian Thalassemia Patients Friends’ Society

AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), received in his office Ms. Jihad Abu Ghosh, Secretary of the Palestinian Thalassemia Patients’ Friends Society (TPFS), to discuss means of supporting the Society by TAG.Global’s expertise in the sustainability of this charitable organization.

During the meeting, Abu Ghosh reviewed the main achievements of the Society as well as the latest development in the treatment of the Thalassemia disease, pointing out that the Society played a significant role in improving the situation in Palestine by reaching  zero cases of newborns with Thalassemia in some regions.

For his part, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his pride in the Society’s role and various achievements since its establishment, stressing the importance of continuing its work towards its noble mission. In addition he offered the cooperation of TAG.Global Office in Ramallah with the Society to establish a training center for the benefit of the Society members at one of its headquarters where both sides can discuss ways of training that van be organized by TAG.Global in Palestine.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also affirmed that TAG.Global will provide the Society with full support to develop its strategic and media plans, networking with the concerned parties and developing a translated smart application that includes (Patient’s Therapeutic Protocol), in addition to support in other areas that serve the Society’s mission, goals and members.

Meanwhile, Ms. Abu Ghosh conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Dr. Bashar Al-Karmi, TPFS Chairman, to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh; the visionary and the widely-recognized philanthropic businessman.

She also said that the TPFS was founded in 1996 by a group of patients, their families and supporters of doctors and health professionals concerned with this disease with the aim of providing the necessary assistance to Thalassemia patients and enabling them to become active members in their communities as well as to increase public awareness on this disease and means to treat it.

Abu Ghosh pointed out that the Association succeeded in building a wide network of relations with different public and civil institutions and individuals concerned with this disease. She praised the Society which became a model for dealing with Thalassemia patients, adding that the TPFS seeks to offer the best medical services to patients, in addition to promoting awareness among members of the society especially the youth on the importance of pre-marriage medical examination. 

Additionally, Abu Ghosh revealed that Palestine is the first Arab country and the second in the world after Cyprus that contributed to reducing the number of newborns with Thalassemia to almost zero.

By organizing the first Arab Forum 2019, the Society was able to move toward achieving its objectives, noting that it is currently organizing the second forum in collaboration with the Thalassemia International Federation through the Internet to focus on the importance of pre-marriage medical examination and the health and social conditions of patients as well as accepting them in society, especially in labor market. 

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that causes the body to have less hemoglobin than normal. Hemoglobin enables red blood cells to carry oxygen. Thalassemia can cause anemia.
