The EUIPO wins Gold Green Apple Environment Award

ALICANTE - The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has once again been recognized for its innovative environmental practices by the Green Apple Environment Awards, according to the official website of EUIPO.

The Office won Gold in the ‘Legal/Climate Change’ category for its overall achievements and efforts to reduce the Office's energy, paper and carbon consumption within the EUIPO’s environmental project – Reduction of EUIPO’s environmental impact. In 2019, the Office won the gold award for its AA3

Building in the 'Built Environment & Architectural Heritage' category. And in 2016, the Office won the gold award in the 'New build' category and the bronze award in the 'Commercial' category.

In 2019 and compared with 2015, the Office reduced its consumption (per on-site worker) of paper by 73 %, toner by 79 %, water by 38 %, electricity by 32 % and gas by 74 %. Waste generation dropped by 65 % while greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 33 %. Meanwhile, 30 % of the EUIPO’s energy demand is now produced on-site from renewable sources and heating-related fossil fuel consumption was reduced to zero.

The Green Organization was established in 1994 as 'an international, independent, non-profit, non-political, non-activist environment group, dedicated to recognizing, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.' The Awards scheme was set up in 1994 to recognize, reward and promote environmental best practices worldwide.
