LOS ANGELES - This announcement is an update to a previous announcement published on November 18, 2022, according to the official website of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Leaders of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organization (org) and members of the ICANN community will participate in the 17th Annual Meeting of The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) from 28 November to 2 December 2022. The hybrid meeting will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme "Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future."

ICANN org will take part in several sessions at this year's forum, beginning with the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, 29 November at 08:15–09:45 UTC (11:15–12:45 local time). ICANN President and CEO Gӧran Marby will speak, along with U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres; Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary of the U.N. Economic Commission for Africa; Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chair of the African Union Commission; and Li Junhua, U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.

An Open Forum, "ICANN Reducing Inequality By Enabling Inclusive and Resilient Internet through Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development", will take place on 30 November from 10:45–11:45 UTC (13:45–14:45 local time) in Banquet Hall A. Convened under the theme "Preventing Internet Fragmentation" and led by Marby, the Open Forum will offer a discussion of the New Generic Top-Level Domain Program and the importance of Universal Acceptance (UA) in building an Internet that is inclusive, useful, and empowering. UA ensures that all domain names and email addresses can be used by all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems. This is an essential step that will help communities around the world access the Internet in their local languages and scripts. The hybrid format of the forum will allow participants to actively engage, whether on-site or virtually.

A third session, a Town Hall to launch the Coalition for Digital Africa, under the IGF theme Connecting All People and Safeguarding Human Rights, will take place on 1 December from 09:00–10:00 UTC (12:00–13:00 local time) in Banquet Hall A. In this session, ICANN will introduce the Coalition for Digital Africa, an alliance of like-minded organizations committed to building a robust and secure Internet infrastructure to bring more Africans online. By promoting innovation and advancing digital transformation through projects that will benefit the African continent, the initiative will nurture the development of Africa's digital economy. The Town Hall will offer an opportunity for participants to interact with founding partner organizations as they discuss their collaboration on initial projects.

ICANN also will welcome both virtual and on-site participants to its booth in the IGF Village, located in the meeting's exhibition area throughout the four-day event. The Village offers virtual and physical display booths for stakeholders to distribute information about their Internet governance-related activities. The venue provides an opportunity for engagement with leaders of ICANN org and members of the ICANN Board and the ICANN community.

The IGF is a global platform for various stakeholder groups to come together to discuss public policy issues related to key elements of Internet governance. The event facilitates common understanding among diverse constituents and provides a place for exchanging information to address key challenges. We look forward to being part of the IGF again this year.

The IGF is free to attend but registration is required.
