CANBERRA - Australia IP is updating some of its fees to continue covering the costs of administering intellectual property (IP) rights and their associated legislation. The changes to its fees will commence October 1, 2024, a press release stated by IP Australia. 

The Office reviews fees every 4 years, with the last update in October 2020. Its latest fee review commenced in 2023, aligning with its commitment to keeping cost recovery arrangements consistent with the Australian Government Charging Policy. 

The fee changes follow a review process of more than 15 months, including 2 public consultation phases. IP Australia carefully considered all the feedback received before finalizing the new fee arrangements.

In addition to fee changes, IP Australia used the fee review process to reconsider the costs that could be awarded in patents, trademarks or design rights proceedings.
