LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is publishing an initial report from a community group composed of experienced community members and ICANN organization (org) subject-matter experts focused on ICANN Public Meeting Strategy, a press release stated by ICANN.
Following initial consultations and an ICANN org-created discussion paper, this "How We Meet" discussion group was launched, and the group conducted a high-level review of current practices, analyzed cost data, and developed practical options for updating meeting formats, rotation models, and hybrid capabilities. These preliminary ideas were shared during a plenary session at ICANN82 to solicit informal feedback. The group now seeks broader community input through this Public Comment proceeding to refine these options further and ensure they align with ICANN's commitment to fostering global participation while optimizing resources.
ICANN seeks feedback on key options, including shortening the Community Forum by one day, prioritizing meeting locations that offer economical options, establishing policies for online meeting transitions during unforeseen circumstances, and exploring the feasibility of converting one annual meeting to a virtual-only format.
