LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that the ICANN84 Annual General Meeting, originally scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman, will now be held in Dublin, Ireland. Recent developments, including associated flight disruptions and impending timelines related to planning the meeting, made it prudent and necessary to select an alternative and available location. This decision ensures that ICANN can run a successful meeting both in person and online. The dates of the Annual General Meeting remain unchanged and are scheduled for October 25–30, 2025, according to the official website of ICANN.
Each ICANN Public Meeting draws attendees from over 150 countries, making global accessibility and travel safety essential to its success. While Oman remains a safe host country, the recent events in the regional airspace have caused closures and flight disruptions. Given this uncertainty – and the possibility that travel to and from Oman could remain difficult – ICANN made the decision to relocate ICANN84 now to allow adequate time to secure a suitable alternative venue, given the impending planning deadlines for the meeting. Acting promptly allows ICANN to avoid a scenario where the meeting could be forced into a remote-only format, and helps to ensure a stable and well-attended event.
ICANN extends its gratitude to our partners in Oman, particularly the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), for their tireless efforts in preparing to host ICANN84. We appreciate their understanding and look forward to being in Oman for a future Public Meeting.
"ICANN Board and staff have been closely monitoring the travel disruptions and flight cancellations in the area surrounding the scheduled meeting location," said Tripti Sinha, ICANN Board Chair. "We understand that relocating the meeting may cause inconvenience. However, this decision is based on a thorough assessment of the situation in the region and the potential impact on travel and participation. We appreciate the community's understanding and continued support as we adapt to ensure that our Annual General Meeting is a success."
ICANN will publish a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page to the Meetings website in the coming days to address questions on travel arrangements, hotels, accommodations, scheduling, and other meeting-related issues.
The registration for ICANN84 will open soon and more information will be shared in due course of time.
