LOS ANGELES - From June 9 – 11, 2025, domain registrars accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) had the opportunity to vote on the updated variable accreditation fees adopted by the ICANN Board of Directors for fiscal year (FY) 2026, a press release stated by ICANN.
ICANN announced that the results of the vote show that ICANN-accredited registrars have approved the updated fees. ICANN thanks the accredited registrars who participated in this process that contribute to securing the financial stability necessary for the future of ICANN's mission and the Internet community we both serve.
Under Section 3.9.2 of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA), approval of such variable accreditation fees is obtained from the ICANN-accredited registrars if, in the aggregate, registrars accounting for payment of two-thirds of all registrar-level fees payable to ICANN vote in favor.
As in years past, ICANN-accredited registrars will contribute to ICANN's budget through both fixed annual accreditation fees and variable accreditation fees. The FY26 Registrar Fee Schedule is as follows:
• Annual Accreditation Fee: $4,000 per registrar accreditation, per year as described in Section 3.9.1 of the RAA. This fee amount remains consistent and is not subject to change in FY26.
• Variable Accreditation Fee: As reflected in the FY26 Budget, updated variable accreditation fees effective as of 1 July 2025 are:
- Per-Registrar Variable Fees: The amount per registrar is calculated each quarter by dividing $950,000 (one-fourth of $3.8 million) equally among all registrars that have at least been accredited for one full quarter or have made at least one transaction, taking into consideration the forgiveness factor automatically granted to qualified registrars.
- Transaction-Based Fees: $0.20 per transaction is assessed on each annual increment of an add, renew, or transfer transaction that has survived a related add or auto-renew grace period.
As previewed in ICANN's October 2024 fee adjustment blog post and accompanying thought paper, this updated fee structure reflects a necessary adjustment to support ICANN's mission and operational sustainability.
