LOS ANGELES - On behalf of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Board Candidate Evaluation Committee (BCEC), the At-Large Community is seeking Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from individuals who wish to serve as an ICANN Board Director. The nominated candidate will serve a three-year term starting at the end of ICANN87, which is currently scheduled for October 17–22, 2026, according to the official website of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Background

Seat number 15 of the ICANN Board of Directors is dedicated to a member nominated by the At-Large Community. This seat is currently held by León Sánchez, who assumed the position at the end of ICANN60. His third three-year term will be completed at the closing of ICANN87 scheduled for October 2026, and he is not eligible for reappointment.

Pursuant to Section 19 of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure (RoP), the At-Large Community launched its nomination process for the next Board Director to serve in Seat 15 in August 2025. That process began with the appointment of the Chairs and members of the BCEC and the ALAC Board Member Selection Process Committee (BMSPC).

The ALAC BCEC is responsible for outlining candidate requirements and expectations (in addition to those mandated by the ICANN Bylaws for service on the ICANN Board); calling for and evaluating applications; and compiling the initial slate of candidates for Seat 15. The BMSPC oversees the entire selection process, including the development of the selection timeline and the election process.

Both groups have regionally balanced membership and operate in accordance with a strict code of conduct and confidentiality, where applicable.

The BCEC is expected to finalize its selection in early 2026. In accordance with the ALAC RoP, Regional At-Large Organizations may petition to have a candidate added to the candidate slate. The overall nomination process is scheduled to conclude no later than Wednesday, 22 April 2026. The successful applicant will be announced on or before that date.

How to Submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) Form

Interested individuals should begin the process by reviewing the At-Large Board Member Candidate Requirements 2025-2026 and the Candidate Reference Links & Resources.

Those interested and eligible should email the BCEC support staff (bcec-staff@icann.org) to request access to the EoI form. Note that applicants will be requested to name three to four referees who are willing, at short notice, to provide a written reference for their candidacy when contacted by the BCEC and At-Large staff.

The deadline for submitting an EoI Form for the BCEC's consideration is 23:59 UTC on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Please email the staff supporting the BCEC if you have more questions.
