LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is seeking input on a study conducted to identify one or more IPv6 candidate prefixes that may be suitable for use in an AAAA record during controlled interruption, which is a name collision mitigation strategy, a press release stated by ICANN.
This study involved a review of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority registries for IPv6 to produce a list of candidate addresses, followed by technical tests of multiple applications on popular end-user operating systems, to determine whether or not Domain Name System lookups that produce responses containing these addresses result in external network traffic.
