2026 ICANN Community Excellence Award Honors Amrita Choudhury

LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced Amrita Choudhury, a long-time member of the ICANN community, as the recipient of the 2026 ICANN Community Excellence Award, according to the official website of ICANN.
A selection panel of representatives from ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees recognized Choudhury's proactive leadership and her unwavering commitment to the ICANN multistakeholder model. ICANN President and CEO Kurtis Lindqvist presented the award to her during the ICANN85 Welcome Ceremony on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The ICANN Community Excellence Award honors members of the ICANN community who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions and contributed in a substantive way to policymaking within the ICANN ecosystem.
Since September 2022, Choudhury has served as the chair of the Asian, Australasian, and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organization (APRALO). Drawing on almost twenty years of experience, she has played a key role in advancing the priorities of the Internet ecosystem from a developing country perspective, with a special focus on India. Amid the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority stewardship transition, Choudhury spearheaded the first stakeholder consultations in India and delivered a report representing the Indian perspective. Choudhury is also a co-founder of the India School of Internet Governance.
Choudhury was part of the Leadership Development Team for the Third At-Large Summit in November 2019. She also served as a member of the APRALO Hot Topic Survey Initiative and as an observer in the At-Large Review Implementation Working Group. Having attended five ICANN public meetings as an ICANN fellow, Choudhury served as a Fellowship Program mentor at ICANN65. In addition, Choudhury was an ICANN Nominating Committee delegate in 2020 and 2021.
As an active participant in Internet governance discussions, Choudhury served as a United Nations Internet Governance Forum Multistakeholder Advisory Group member and on the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society outcomes Informal Multistakeholder Sounding Board in 2025. She is currently serving as the director of the Cyber Cafe Association of India.
