DAEJEON - The South Korea’s Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Reinforced Cooperation in the Field of Intellectual Property with the Ministry of Science and Technology on April 22, on the occasion of the Republic of Korea-Vietnam Summit held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, according to the official website of the Ministry.

The MoU, signed in the presence of the leaders of both countries, significantly expands both the scope and level of cooperation compared to previous arrangements. Key areas include strengthening a joint response to counterfeit goods, exchange of data, prevention of bad-faith trademark filings, utilization of artificial intelligence (AI), and promotion of IP valuation, transactions, and financing.

Prior to the signing, Minister Kim Yong Sun held consecutive meetings on April 21 with Vu Hai Quan, Minister of Science and Technology, and Luu Hoang Long, Director General of the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam. During these meetings, they discussed the role of intellectual property as a driver of national economic growth, the direction and priorities of bilateral cooperation, and practical measures for implementing the MOU.

Minister Kim stated, "Vietnam is a key partner maintaining close economic cooperation with Korea, and taking this opportunity, cooperative ties in the field of intellectual property between the two countries will be strengthened.";
