GENEVA – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in partnership with Intellectual Property Office of Singapore International, organized the WIPO–IPOS International Executive Program in Intangible Asset Management, “Intellectual Property x Artificial Intelligence: Innovating in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. The five-day program, held in Singapore, brought together 16 professionals working across law, business, technology transfer, public administration and innovation management from nine countries, according to the official website of WIPO.
Building critical IP capabilities
As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes how ideas are created, protected and commercialized, intellectual property (IP) and intangible asset (IA) management have become central to strategic decision-making for many organizations.
This Executive Program provided targeted IP learning experiences for senior executives and professionals. It helped them navigate this changing environment and use IP as a strategic tool for innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth.
The program highlighted AI considerations, including risks, governance and responsible use, providing important context for professionals navigating AI-related IP and innovation challenges. It also addressed four capability areas shaping today's innovation and business leaders in the AI era and their approach towards IP-related challenges.
IP creating value in an AI-driven economy
Participants explored how intangible assets are becoming the main drivers of organizational value. Sessions examined strategies for protecting and commercializing IP in environments where AI is accelerating innovation and transforming traditional IP boundaries.
Navigating complexity and global innovation
Participants developed knowledge of alternative dispute resolution, technology partnership structuring, and cross-border governance in the context of increasing AI-driven innovation and transnational data flows. Sessions also highlighted Singapore’s experience as an innovation hub and international arbitration center.
Translating knowledge into organizational impact
Beyond frameworks and theory, the program included a learning visit to the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Innovation Centre in Singapore. Participants learne how a global technology company deploys AI and digital solutions across industries, and how effective IP and IA management support innovation ecosystems. The experience offered practical perspectives and real-world applications that participants could directly adapt to their own organizations and business environments.
Learning through exchange and expert Insight
The program combined expert-led sessions, peer exchange and industry engagement. These activities supported applied learning and professional collaboration. Expert contributors included:
Assistant Professor Lu Weiquan from Duke-NUS Medical School shared insights on how digital twins are transforming policy design globally.
Mr. Gabriel Ong from IPOS' Hearings and Mediation Department, who offered perspectives on Singapore's alternative dispute resolution policies and practices.
Ms. Esther Loh, Counsellor at the WIPO Singapore Office, highlighted WIPO's collaborative initiatives in ASEAN and its broader efforts to build IP capacity across governments and private-sector organizations reinforcing the program’s connection to WIPO's wider strategic agenda.
Peer learning also played a central role in the program, enabling participants to exchange experiences and perspectives shaped by diverse professional and regional contexts. Together, these areas illustrate how IP now operates across legal, technical and business functions rather than as a stand-alone discipline.
Looking ahead
The WIPO–IPOS International Executive Program is part of a growing portfolio of executive learning experiences being delivered by the WIPO Academy in partnership with leading institutions worldwide. It highlights the growing need for strengthening IP capabilities across multiple professional domains. As technological advancements continue to accelerate change across industries, WIPO remains committed to equipping the next generation of innovation leaders with strategic IP knowledge, skills and expertise.
