SINGAPORE - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)'s leaders said the decision by the organization's Board of Directors to allow an increase in the number of Internet address endings – called generic top-level domains (gTLDs) will usher in one of the biggest changes ever to the Internet's Domain Name System, a press release by the Corporation stated.

Rod Beckstrom, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICANN joined Board Chair Peter Dengate Thrush and Senior Vice President Kurt Pritz in discussing the Board's decision during a news conference at ICANN's Singapore meeting.

"ICANN has opened the Internet's naming system to unleash the global human imagination. Today's decision respects the rights of groups to create new Top Level Domains in any language or script. We hope this allows the domain name system to better serve all of mankind," said Rod Beckstrom, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICANN.
